‘Sweet Dreams, Baby!’ by Roy Lichtenstein is fun.

The image evokes a sound and an action, its colors are so saturated one immediately thinks of Americana, rushing swift movement and utter exhilaration. This was a perfect place to start. So we cropped the artwork and expanded it to span over 12’. By zooming in we can break down the artwork into small color pixels, bite size pixels if you will. Each pixel is an amouse bouch that identifies with a color. These bites were developed not only to be the color of the artwork and create the larger experience of the artwork, but to make you question…

What does color taste like to you?

Can black taste like lemon? Red of the ocean?

What if the color and bite completely deceives you?

As individuals these bites are taste, but as a whole they are something else entirely. Over 1000 bites were presented. Each plays its part in forming something larger. But you have to move around and up through the space to understand what that ‘something larger’ is. We refocus on the colors from the original Roy Lichtenstein artwork and made them into a 3d experience you have to walk through and under. These ribbons of color explode from the presented food art, creating pathways and leading you through the space, taking you to specific vantage points and beverage way stations. The colors span multiple floors and guide you up stairs and over bridges to frame the now in focus food-art below. These ribbons capture a sense of movement indicated in the original artwork as comic book letters ‘POW!’ in a way a meal could not as a lone experience.
